Andrea Gilmore-Bykovskyi Co-Leads New Dementia Care Research Center

We’re pleased to share Dr. Andrea Gilmore-Bykovskyi, Associate Professor in the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine, co-directs the newly established EMBRACE (Establishing Mechanisms of Benefit to Reinforce the Alzheimer’s Care Experience) Center. The EMBRACE Center, supported by a $5.8 million National Institute on Aging grant, is designed to test and implement effective dementia care interventions. As part of a nationwide Roybal Center network, EMBRACE aims to ensure that innovative dementia care strategies reach those who need them most.

Dr. Gilmore-Bykovskyi, a dedicated Badger alumna, has built a research program focused on equitable, patient-centered dementia care. She focuses on identifying structural and healthcare barriers that impact Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD) care, particularly among vulnerable populations. Her research has advanced understanding of ADRD care delivery and outcomes, leading to new strategies for improving patient and caregiver experiences.

The EMBRACE Center will support multiple clinical trials that evaluate how dementia interventions work in real-world settings. By identifying the mechanisms that make interventions successful, researchers aim to adapt and scale them across different communities.

Through mentorship, resources, and collaboration, the center will help bridge the gap between research and practical application, ensuring meaningful improvements in dementia care. To learn more or apply for funding applications, click here!
