NIA’s New Guidelines for Data Sharing

All FOAs from NIA in the future will require a data sharing plan. Investigators can write expected costs of sharing into the competing budget. There are five elements: 1. where the data will be placed for sharing; 2. describe and justify a timetable for data release; 3. explain and justify restrictions on sharing; 4. studies involving human participants should address how the data will be de-identified to protect the participants; 5. a curation plan includes metadata to adequately document the data for sharing.
